A Genealogy Study, 2016

'A Genealogy Study' is a social experiment dealing with family. I photographed portraits of my family and a few friends of African descent to document a family legacy. Due to the transatlantic slave trade in depth knowledge of my family ancestry is inscrutable. With poor historic understanding of where I come from I began to think about my own detachment from the family I can physically touch.

The variations of pink symbolize affection and allegiance. I first began using pink to express feelings of adoration in a series of drawings titled 'Passion of Wolves.' The colors in the portraits were created by shining light through red poly dividers onto pure white seamless paper.
